trip 2 bay area
last week i had the pleasure of teaching a workshop at the asian art museum in san francisco, so i used it as an excuse to take a little vacation that, in retrospect, i definitely did not have the time for!!
i always stay at the same house when i'm in the bay area. it belongs to very dear family friends who have an inspirational amount of ephemera, old photos of my parents, and the nicest digestifs!
i generally also demand a trip to la fournée, because i am a pastry diva and it is the best bakery in california, and potentially even the world. the pastries at fournée don't come in a pink box but that's forgivable when the box is full of the most delightfully ugly pastry: the cannelé. a truly deceptive morsel of perfection. go eat one ASAP!!!
also on the to-do list for the trip was checking out the new sfmoma. i have to be honest--the new layout was a real brain-cruncher! i super enjoyed the shows they had up, though. the hand puppets by paul klee (albeit mysterious "replicas" with no explanation about why/how they were reproduced????) and original sister corita kent prints were the highlights for me, but i only took a photo of this ellsworth kelly...?
after sfmoma i headed to the asian art museum for the workshop, which was really a nice time!
we painted disco bags using bojagi in the museum's collection as inspiration for our compositions and color palettes. i was pleasantly surprised by how many people thought of their own designs, though! the bag above was actually daisies, but i like how much it seems inspired by our popcorn snack!
all in all a totally delightful trip! if you want to have a heads up for future workshops and events, i suggest signing up for the gentle thrills newsletter if you haven't already!
